XXXXL size in inches
XXXXL and 4XL are the same size written two ways. Here is what it measures, why it measures something different at every brand, and how to tell which side of it you fall on.
In short: 4XL is usually drafted for a 50 to 52 inch chest in Indian menswear and a 46 to 48 inch bust in womenswear. 4XL and XXXXL are the same size. A numeric 48 usually is not. You know you are a 4XL. What you probably do not know is what a 4XL is, because nobody prints it anywhere: not your chest, not your shoulders, not whether the one in front of you will close. The letter is a shelf position. These are the numbers underneath it.
In centimetres that is 127–132 and 117–122. Those are body measurements, which is to say your chest and not the shirt's, and that distinction does more damage than the numbers themselves.

These are the market convention rather than any single brand's chart, which is exactly why the rest of this page exists. Neck is the one to write down if you buy formal shirts. It is the measurement that decides whether the shirt is wearable, and it is the one brands most often leave out.
4XL vs XXXXL vs 48: same thing?#
4XL and XXXXL: yes, identical. Two notations for the same size.
4XL and "48": usually not. A numeric 48 on an Indian shirt is typically a 3XL, not a 4XL. The whole letter-to-number ladder is here. Numeric shirt sizing in India generally tracks the chest measurement of the garment in inches, which is why the numbers look one size out of step with the letters. If a listing gives you both, believe the number and check it against a shirt you own.
4XL for men and 4XL for women: no. Roughly four inches apart at the chest, in the direction you would expect. A unisex 4XL is drafted on a men's block almost every time, which is why it fits a lot of women badly through the shoulder even when the chest is right.
The same label at different brands#
Here is the part that makes this page worth writing. Seven of the brands we have checked publish a chart that reaches extended sizes, but only four of them describe your body, and they do not agree with each other or with the convention. From Amydus's published chart, checked 18 August 2026, their 4XL is drafted for a 44 inch bust.
The womenswear convention is 46–48. So their 4XL sits close to what most of the market calls a 3XL, and if you order it expecting a conventional 4XL, it will arrive small.
They are not doing anything wrong. It is their range, graded their way, and they published it, which is more than half the stores we list have done.
There is a second trap in the charts that do exist, and it is easy to miss. Amydus publishes the body a size is cut for. Big Banana publishes the garment, measured flat: their 4XL chest reads 55.2 inches. Those two numbers look comparable and are not. Big Banana's 55.2 inch garment is cut for a body around 50 inches once you take the ease back out. So read against Amydus's 44, it is nearly two sizes apart in body terms while both sit under the same label.
Which demonstrates the thing worth internalising: a size label is a brand's internal reference, not a measurement. Where the letters came from explains how that happened. The only numbers
that transfer between brands are inches, and only once you know whether you are being shown a body or a garment.
Full point-of-measure table#
If a brand gives you garment measurements instead of body measurements, this is roughly what a well-drafted 4XL shirt should measure flat:

The gap between the body column and the garment column is the ease: the room the cut allows. Four to six inches on a t-shirt, five to seven on a formal shirt, eight or more on outerwear, close to nothing on jeans.
What to do if you are between 4XL and 5XL#
Woven fabric does not forgive. In a shirt, jeans, chinos or a jacket, size up: a placket that pulls will pull all day, and no amount of standing up straight fixes it.
Jersey is different. Anything with elastane in it will cover about two inches of difference at 2 percent content, so stay at your 4XL and take the cleaner line.
Formal shirts are their own case. Buy for the neck and check the chest afterwards. If the neck fits and the chest does not, you have found a badly graded shirt, not a badly shaped body.
And if you are between sizes at a brand that publishes garment measurements, stop guessing. Measure a shirt you already like, flat, and match its numbers instead of trusting the letter.
